At Berlin Südkreuz station, innovative ideas were tested to make staying, navigating, and feeling safe a better experience. We knew travelers needed more than just transitional spaces—places to take a call, work, charge devices, or use waiting time meaningfully, whether alone or with others.
That’s how Co-Waiting was born: waiting together while making your time flexible and valuable.
When we analyzed the station’s waiting areas, one issue was immediately clear—they were all uninviting. Overheated shelters in summer, freezing spots in winter, and no real spaces to make calls, work on a laptop, or make waiting enjoyable. We reimagined the experience entirely. Inspired by the station’s color-coded system, we created an Urban Jungle floral pattern that wraps glass surfaces, transforming them into cheerful, protective safe spaces.
In the main hall, we introduced a Co-Waiting area featuring real plants and versatile seating: shared tables for quick meetings, loungers for phone calls, informal seating boxes for chats, and bar stools for device charging. The result is a bright, organized space, shielded from noise and chaos, with the soothing touch of greenery.
On the platforms, we carried the concept further, redesigning waiting shelters to be clean, climate-controlled, and inviting. Friendly colors, plant-inspired patterns, and digital services via QR codes complete the transformation, turning waiting into a pleasant, even productive experience.
